31/01/07 - 2007 Sahtu Housing Conference

NORMAN WELLS (January 31, 2007) - The first Northwest Territories Housing Corporation Housing Conference was held in the town of Norman Wells, Northwest Territories January 31 to February 1, 2007. The conference brought together industry partners and community members in a sharing of knowledge and tools with a focus on the Sahtu region.

The goal of the conference was to provide participants with a greater awareness of the programs and services that are provided by the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation and create a better understanding of the role the Corporation plays in delivering housing in the NWT. The conference was coordinated through the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation District Office in Norman Wells.

The conference was kicked off with participants being provided with a Key Note address from the Premier of the Northwest Territories, the Honourable Joe Handley. Through his address, the Premier highlighted key issues surrounding housing in the Territory and how the Corporation is working to address them.

Following the address, presentations ranging from the Affordable Housing Initiative and Homeownership Programs to What you Should Know when Purchasing a Home were given with a variety of topics covered in between. With the assortment of topics and presenters who took part in the conference, there was something for everyone in attendance.

Through the collaborative efforts of those involved, the conference was able to cover an array of topics that participants would not otherwise be able access in one location. It is through these efforts that the conference was such a success.
