Fuel Tank Replacement Initiative

Fuel Tank Replacement Initiative

Replacing a fuel tank is a challenging and costly repair, especially in smaller communities. Left to rust unchecked, a faulty fuel tank can lead to environmental contamination that requires even more costly remediation. The Fuel Tank Replacement initiative will assist homeowners in covering the costs of replacing aging above ground fuel tanks that do not meet current standards or are in poor condition, through a one-time forgivable loan.

What is the Assistance?

A one-time forgivable loan of up to $10,000.

Who is eligible?

Residents of the NWT for a minimum of 3 years who have owned and lived in their homes for 1 year and who are 19 years of age or over.  Households earning less that $60,000 are exempt from a co-payment amount.  Household making $60,000 or over up to the Core Need Income Thresholds will be required to make a co-payment of 10% of repair costs.
