12/02/2007 - Northwest Territories Housing Corporation Launches “Housing Choices”
YELLOWKNIFE (12 February 2007) – The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) has completed a consolidation of its housing programs. Today the new program structure, Housing Choices, was unveiled by the Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC), the Honourable Joe Handley.
“The consolidation of our programs was driven by clients’ needs. The new, streamlined program structure will help people identify the programs they are looking for more easily so Housing Corporation staff can offer them the help they need in a timely and efficient manner,” said Minister Handley.
Housing Choices offers four programs to NWTHC clients: STEP - Solutions to Educate People, HELP - Homeowner Entry Level Program, PATH - Providing Assistance for Territorial Homeownership and CARE - Contributing Assistance for Repairs and Enhancement.
The newly consolidated programs provide standardized and consistent program requirements, a simplified and flexible program structure that improves access, education and counseling for success, expanded eligibility criteria and broadened access for seniors and persons with disabilities.
This new program structure supports the NWTHC’s goal to provide a sufficient supply of affordable, adequate and suitable housing stock to meet the housing needs of residents of the Northwest Territories. It is also reflective of the Government of the Northwest Territories’ vision of fostering self-reliance.
