| 17/11/99 - First International Sale of Made in the NWT Housing
Materials Packages Completed
YELLOWKNIFE (November 17) -- The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation
(NWTHC) has completed its first international sale of made in the Northwest
Territories housing materials packages.
The sale of seven housing packages to Barrow, Alaska is worth more than $560,000
and is expected to be the first of many to small communities across the state.
"The NWT Housing Corporation has over 25 years of experience building homes in
the Arctic," said Floyd Roland, Minister Responsible for the NWTHC. "It is not
surprising that the Alaskans would want to buy these homes."
"It's not just the Housing Corporation that should be proud of this sale, all
Northerners should be proud as these packages contain components such as doors,
windows and cabinets that were made here in the NWT," he added.
In addition to the Alaskan sale, the NWTHC sold five housing packages to the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police this year and sold housing materials packages to
Parks Canada last year.
Profits from the sale of housing materials packages will help pay for social
housing units.
