HAY RIVER (April 26, 2006) - The Honourable David Krutko, Minister Responsible for
the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation, along with Jane
Groenewegen, MLA for Hay River South, representatives from the
Hay River Housing Authority and seniors participated in a
ribbon cutting ceremony today.
The ceremony celebrates six new duplexes built in
Hay
River providing 12 two-bedroom public housing
units for seniors.
This project highlights the successful planning and
consultations undertaken with many stakeholders to meet a
housing need in the Town of
Hay River.
"The public housing duplex units are barrier-free and
designed to support seniors pursuing independent lifestyles,"
said Minister Krutko.
The units are located on
Caribou Drive,
Saskatoon and
Cranberry Crescents.
Minister Krutko acknowledged the important contribution
of many people and organizations such as members of the
construction industry, the Town of
Hay
River and especially seniors
themselves. "We recognize it requires the cooperation of many
stakeholders to make a housing project a success. The Housing
Corporation values everyone's assistance in designing and
building homes that blend energy efficiency with a practical
layout," said Minister Krutko.
The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation is
focused on providing affordable, suitable and adequate housing
solutions to the residents of the
Northwest
