The Community Government designated one Council member as the point of contact on the Community Housing Plan project. This member is the point in contact for the community, the Community Government, and for the NWTHC.

Transitional Housing Projects

Overview

Transitional housing provides temporary accommodation and support for individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness or other unstable housing situations. Housing NWT works with local organizations to support transitional housing through programs like Northern Pathways to Housing and Housing First. These programs are currently not accepting new applications, but you can learn more about the ongoing projects below.

Overview

The Small Community Homelessness Fund (SCHF) supports community-led projects that address the unique shelter and support needs of individuals experiencing homelessness in Northwest Territories communities (excluding Yellowknife).

Homelessness looks different in every community. That’s why this fund is designed to be flexible and responsive to local priorities—for both adults and youth.

Community Housing Plans

Overview

A Community Housing Plan combines community values and priorities on housing with housing data, statistics, and program information to make a comprehensive map that better directs housing investment in the community. Community Housing Plans typically include a Housing Needs Assessment along with the plan itself. The planning process involves collaborative and in-depth community engagement to determine community housing needs and priorities, and strategic planning with stakeholders to develop a path forward. Ongoing support is provided to update the plan when needed.
